The Quiet Season

January 11, 2019

As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and
do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish,so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth:It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Isaiah 55:10-11

Several years ago, my husband and I talked at length about retirement: where to live, what type of home to purchase, amenities in the community, transportation, and proximity to our family. Our discussion led to an interesting quandary. Where did our season of quiet go? We had lived in northern and southern cities, eastern and western towns. Geography wasn't the issue. A sense of being connected to seasonal life was missing.  Our lives were full of 24/7 commitments, computer work, and social media. It was full, too full and we were exhausted by it all. We decided that we needed a quiet season. A time to unwind, reflect, sit by the fire all day and read kind of quiet. Our little Lake community became that for us. We know that the rain and snow watering our physical and spiritual community will accomplish God's purposes, fill us with new life and promise. It will accomplish what we desire; rest and rejuvenation. and it will accomplish what He desires and ready us for the seed sowing season to come.
